Taste of the world
A vibrant celebration of culture and cuisine at Saint Joseph's University, fostering unity and supporting minority-owned businesses.
As the Experiential Programmer for the Center for Inclusion and Diversity at Saint Joseph's University, I lead the coordination of the biannual cultural extravaganza known as Taste of the World (TOTW). This vibrant event, sponsored by Pepsi and student-run group Bridging the Gap, celebrates the diverse cuisines and cultures represented by multicultural student organizations on campus. Through innovative programming and strategic partnerships, TOTW has become a hallmark event, showcasing the rich tapestry of diversity that defines our university community.
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, TOTW adapted to the times, transitioning from an intimate indoor program for a couple hundred to an outdoor format featuring food trucks to celebrate the power community for nearly 1k attendees. This resilience, coupled with early planning and collaboration with internal and external campus partners, ensured the event's success and continued growth. By incorporating elements like a movie and trivia night, TOTW expanded its offerings, providing attendees with a truly immersive cultural experience.
Beyond its cultural significance, TOTW serves as a powerful economic engine, contributing over $70,000 to minority-owned businesses since my placement. This tangible support reflects the university’s commitment to equity and inclusion, amplifying underrepresented voices and fostering a sense of belonging for all.
